| I agree with Loman here...and have more insight into your situation since we have been chatting privately about it. I think that the ammonia levels are from the die off occurred when you transported this tank home, even though it was established, there is no way you could have avoided disrupting the tank quite a bit. I think that the odds of the live rock and live sand, coupled with the filter, 'kicking' in soon is pretty high, but in the mean time, you may have some issues. If I remember right, most of your fish are hardy in nature, but I really would be leery about the corals the guy gave you when you bought the system. Out of anything, they are by far the most sensitive livestock you have right now.
The pH only came up a little bit, huh??? That is odd and sort of surprising since I think you are using RO water, corrrect? I never have a problem with pH in my tank and I use RO water and Instant Ocean Reef Crystals.
I am not 100% sure on this, but you may be able to get away with using a dechlor conditoner on this tank. Even though you do not need to remove chlorine or chloramines with RO water, some of them also affect ammonia levels in your tank and make them less lethal to your fish. The part I am not sure of is if you can use the same product in a saltwater tank since I usually only read about using it in a freshwater tank. I am assuming you can though since I used stress coat for my initial filling of my SW tank and then again for one water change when I was using tap water....oooops, that was a secret and I should not have said anything, lol.
Hopefully someone who uses tap water on a regular basis can add some input on that idea for you. |
