Skimmer

I've had my fission nano skimmer up for 2 days, and i was wondering, how do you know if its making enough foam? in the collection cup i see foam, but i don't understand what it means by 'Wet' and 'Dry' foam and the brown gunk everyone seems to find any info on what this looks like and how much ect. should be collected, i havnt added fish yet (should be this week all the parameters checked out near perfect)
I've read bad reviews about this skimmer but i havnt encountered the problems everyone else seems to have had with it
so some help would be appreciated =] thanks guys

Edit: Is the foam supposed to overflow into the cup and dissapate? If so the foam isnt getting high enough to overflow into the cup, im very much thinking about returning this filter for a seaclone skimmer, as ive been playing with this nano skimmer for about an hour and a half and its still not working right

Re: Skimmer

Mikeyb, skimmers will take up to 72 hours to "break in". On top of that, you don't have a bio load yet. Until you get some fish or something to add proteins and waste to the water it won't do much.
Like I said in the other thread of yours that skimmer has had bad reviews do to its short reaction chamber. The skimmate is more "wet". Wet and dry skimmate refers to the "gunk" in the collection cup.
Dry, means the skimmate is very dark, odoriferous, and thick like tar. It is produced when the reaction chamber over flows with only bubbles. Wet skimmate on the other hand looks more watery, not as dark and so on. The dry skimmate is what people typically shoot for.
As far as the Seaclone, how big is your tank? I honestly, if you want a "cheap" skimmer, would go with the Super Skimmer by Coralife over the Seaclone, you will be much happier.

Good luck
