Wanted: COLORFUL zoos

I would love to have a beautiful field of zoos in my tank, however every time i go to the lfs they have the ugliest, brownest zoos around. I have YET to see some worth buying, aside from the bright and colorful zoos they have in their own show tanks there, which are obviously not for sale. So, I am now in search for some super colorful specimens! I am interested in purchasing online, from something like saltwaterfish or liveaquaria, hwoever ive never personally seen or heard about how pretty their specimens are. Has anyone bought zoos online or does anyone have some bright cheery ones they would be willing to part with?

Re: Wanted: COLORFUL zoos

You have to be careful when ordering from some places like liveaquaria or marinedepot. They generally put up a pic and that is what it is, they dont sell frags and tend to be very high for simple zoas. E-bay is a good place to get smaller frags that are more rare, but you also have to be careful who the person is. The last couple of e-bay perchases I made on e-bay I did not recieve the correct zoa or palys, and the ones that were right were not the same color as the pic. They have a tendency to photoshop the heck out of there coral pics. There a few reputable e-bayers out there, but not many.
Youe best bet would be to hook up with a coral club in your area. You can buy cheap frags of alot of good corals. Alot of members will trade as well, or sell them to you cheap.
Most of the zoa-palys I have collected has been through coral shows or buying in a group buy from an online site. Group buying is great, everyone splits up the shipping costs so you dont have to pay the general 50.00 shipping fee yourself.
There are some great websites out there that sell very colorful frags, of course the more colorful the coral the higher the price.
There is a link for online coral stores here, http://www.fishtankforums.com/23-sal...al-stores.html (Online coral stores)

Re: Wanted: COLORFUL zoos

thank you for the info gary, thats exactly what i thought myself, and is exactly the reason why i have not bought online.

Unfortunately, most of the coral shows here in SD are private, actually we just had a HUGE one downtown a month ago... My naked clowns came from that show. Ive been looking into local coral groups, but havent really gotten into them since ive been having one small upset after another...

Re: Wanted: COLORFUL zoos

A good friend of mine who owns www.zoanuts.com is going to a huge coral expo in Orange county. I know he is bringing some excellent pieces, as well as picking some more when he gets down there. This show is touted as one of the biggest ones in CA. I would be there if it wasnt too far from where I live. Here is some more info, http://www.marineaquariumexpo.com/
I am also not crazy in the club scene, but I do know alot of people from going to a couple of meetings and have gained some great pieces from it.
